Greek government to cut heating oil price, raise subsidies and extend diesel aid

In his weekly government report, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis outlined a multi-part energy relief package. The plan includes a coordinated intervention with refineries to bring the initial price of heating oil down to less than €1.75 per litre and a horizontal increase of the heating allowance covering households that use any form of energy. Diesel subsidies will be extended for the whole of October, and the government may seek EU permission for emergency national measures, including a temporary cut to fuel taxes.

Mitsotakis also addressed the ongoing debate on constitutional revision, accusing opposition parties of obstructing proposals they have previously supported. He highlighted recent credit-rating upgrades from Moody’s and Scope as evidence of Greece’s economic progress.
