Greek heating subsidy rises 30% for 2026-27 winter season

Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis announced a 30% increase in the winter heating allowance, with payments varying by region, fuel type and family size.

Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis disclosed that the heating allowance for the 2026-27 winter will be 30% higher than the previous year, reflecting soaring energy prices. Payments begin at 130 euros and may top out at 1,560 euros for electric-heated homes in the coldest regions, with the minimum amount rising from 100 to 130 euros and the standard maximum moving from 800 to 1,040 euros. Areas with a climate coefficient of 1.0 or more receive an extra 25% increase, while zones with a coefficient of 1.2 or higher get a further 25% boost.

Example amounts include 205 euros for a one-child family in Athens and 927 euros for a similar family in Vervio. To qualify, households must meet income thresholds of 16,000 euros (single) or 24,000 euros (married), with additional allowances per dependent child, and must not exceed asset limits for real estate and business income. Applications open in early November via the myΘέρμανση portal, with advance payments expected by mid-December and final installments extending to July 2027.
