Guardia Civil doubts claim that Victor de Aldama's Audi was shot at

The Central Operational Unit of the Guardia Civil says the alleged gunshots on Victor de Aldama's Audi A8 are unsubstantiated, describing the incident as a failed robbery attempt.

The Guardia Civil's Central Operational Unit has cast doubt on the narrative that Victor de Aldama's Audi A8 was hit by gunfire, stating that the only damage reported was a failed attempt to break the window with a puncturing tool. Aldama told his insurer about the incident but chose not to lodge a formal complaint, describing the process as pointless. The UCO's report, part of a larger hydrocarbon-fraud probe, notes that Aldama was previously convicted in the Koldo case and is suspected of leading a multi-million-euro fraud network.

Communications intercepted by investigators show Aldama discussing the episode with his spokesperson and his brother, a police officer, who suggested the damage could be explained without gunshots. Media outlets continued to circulate the shooting story, but the police found no ballistic evidence. The investigation also highlights that high-end vehicles, including the Audi and a Range Rover, were bought through a corporate structure suspected of laundering illicit funds.

Why it matters

It reveals possible manipulation of a high-profile crime claim to obscure a larger fraud and money-laundering investigation.
