Havlíčkův Brod coalition expands to include Christian Democrats, prompting a councilor's resignation

A new governing coalition in Havlíčkův Brod now unites ODS, ANO, KDU-ČSL, TOP 09 and the Christian Democrats, securing 18 of 25 seats, while one councillor quit in protest.

In Havlíčkův Brod, local politicians finalized a coalition that brings together ODS, ANO, KDU-ČSL, TOP 09 and the Christian Democratic Party, giving the alliance 18 of the 25 council seats. The arrangement mirrors the previous four-year government, differing only by the inclusion of the Christian Democrats, who had previously rejected cooperation with ANO. Mayor Zbyněk Stejskal confirmed that the mayoral and two deputy mayor positions will remain with Zbyněk Stejskal, Vladimír Slávka (ANO) and Libor Honzárek (Město moderně), while Ondřej Rázl (KDU-ČSL) will become the new deputy mayor.

Councillor Petr Kletečka resigned before the first council session, citing moral objections to the coalition. The opposition, led by the independent group Broďáci with three seats, declined any coalition offer, emphasizing democratic values. The governing coalition plans to prioritize a new indoor pool and the reconstruction of the municipal waste yard. Parallel coalition talks in nearby towns such as Třebíč, Pelhřimov, Žďár nad Sázavou and Jihlava followed similar patterns of party alignments.

Why it matters

The new coalition determines local policy direction and budget priorities for Havlíčkův Brod and neighboring municipalities.
