Health Minister pledges overhaul of medical credentialing committees amid resident complaints

Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete announced plans to replace members of the committees that handle recognition and equivalence of doctors' qualifications, citing unjustified delays.

In a public Facebook post, Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete disclosed that the Ministry of Health will change the makeup of the commissions tasked with recognizing and equating medical qualifications, training internships and additional study attestations. The decision responds to a wave of grievances from resident doctors and specialists who claim one outlet process imposes unjustified delays, especially for credentials obtained in other European countries.

Rogobete argued that these bottlenecks hinder the reintegration of Romanian physicians who have studied or worked abroad, potentially weakening the national health system. He pledged to remove committee members who are perceived as underperforming, overly protective of personal interests, or causing unnecessary procedural hold-ups. The minister stressed that members must combine academic and professional experience with a sense of responsibility toward early-career doctors. He concluded that bureaucracy, ego or personal gain will no longer block doctors' professional progress.

Why it matters

The reform aims to speed up credential recognition, helping doctors practice sooner and improving Romania's healthcare staffing.
