Heavy rains swell Kharun River, flooding roads in Raipur and Durg districts

A sustained spell of rain over the last 24 hours has created flood-like conditions throughout parts of Chhattisgarh, as the Kharun River swelled and inundated villages in Raipur and Durg districts. The surge submerged the Raipur-Patan-Durg road via Mahadev Ghat, disrupting normal traffic flow, while the Raipur-Bhilai route also suffered waterlogging. Residents of Amleshwar and Khudmuda reported significant water rise, with many houses breached and roads completely covered by water.

Local authorities noted that the continuous rainfall has heightened concerns for low-lying and riverside communities. The India Meteorological Department forecasted mostly cloudy skies with intermittent rain and thunderstorms for the next two days, with temperatures ranging from the mid-20s to high-20s Celsius. Officials urge residents to stay vigilant as further precipitation is expected.
