Home Ministry delegates MCBA director-general dispute to senior civil service officials

Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the Home Ministry has referred the MCBA director-general Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain case to the ministry’s secretary-general and the Chief Secretary, after opposition criticism over the police-officer clash.

During a National Registration Day ceremony in Kulai, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced that the Home Ministry has assigned the dispute over MCBA director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain to the ministry’s secretary-general and the Chief Secretary to the Government, invoking existing civil-service regulations. He addressed opposition members of parliament who accused him of failing to intervene in the clash between Shuhaily and police personnel Faiz Saman and Ekmal Sofwan Dirman, injured at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on September 28.

Saifuddin accepted the criticism but challenged opposition leaders’ capacity to act as peacemakers amid internal party splits involving Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin. Opposition MPs also called for the withdrawal of action against Shuhaily, raised doubts about the prosecution’s pace, and hinted at a broader “corporate mafia” motive. Shuhaily has entered a not-guilty plea at the Sepang magistrate’s court on two counts of voluntarily causing hurt. The ministry’s delegation highlights a bureaucratic approach to a politically sensitive law-enforcement dispute.
