Horizons leader proposes taxing LFI for protest damages using public funding
Laurent Marcangeli suggested that La France insoumise should help pay for property damage caused by protests they join, using their state allocation.
During a broadcast on Radio J, Horizons deputy Laurent Marcangeli called for La France insoumise to share the cost of repairing damage caused by protests in which its members participate, suggesting the use of the party's public funding. He highlighted that LFI obtains more than four million euros each year from taxpayer money and framed this as a basis for financial responsibility. Marcangeli also described LFI as a legal platform for the far left and accused its leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon of fostering an insurrection-like atmosphere.
He further rebuked Mathilde Panot for failing to denounce the fire at Limoges town hall when the prime minister raised the issue. The suggestion may evolve into a formal bill aimed at holding participants in violent gatherings civilly liable.
Why it matters
It raises questions about how public funds for political parties could be used to cover damages from civil unrest.
