Housemate Testifies She Mistook Bloodied Surfboard Bags for Rainwater

A court heard that Jesse Baird's housemate did not realize the surfboard bags she photographed contained the victims' bodies.

In the murder trial of Beau Lamarre-Condon, who faces two counts of murder and an aggravated break-and-enter charge, a housemate identified as Belinda Smith testified that she saw two surfboard bags covered with a blue tarp and a red liquid, which she assumed was rusted water from outdoor furniture. She photographed the scene and shared the image with another housemate, Sarah King, without recognizing the bags contained the bodies of Jesse Baird and Luke Davies.

The prosecution noted that tensions had risen after the housemates asked Baird to move out, and messages from Baird's phone suggested confusion over his departure. The defence argues the police officer acted in self-defence after a struggle. The jury has been shown the photo, and the trial continues before Justice Natalie Adams.

Why it matters

The testimony reveals new details about the discovery of the victims and the contested narrative of the February shooting.
