ICE seeks detention of immigrant charged with jealousy-driven murder in Miami

William Serrano Domenech, a 49-year-old Cuban citizen, was arrested after a street confrontation in Miami on August 17 resulted in the death of 42-year-old Raul Aballe, whom officials say Domenech killed out of jealousy. The incident escalated from a verbal dispute to a physical fight, during which Domenech allegedly retrieved a handgun from a fanny pack and shot Aballe in the abdomen, leading to his death at a hospital.

Domenech, who has a “rap sheet a mile long” with convictions for drug trafficking, firearm violations and assaults in Florida, Michigan, New Mexico and Tennessee, was taken into custody the next day and charged with second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin criticized the Biden administration for releasing Domenech from ICE custody in 2023, asserting that the release enabled the killing.

ICE lodged a detainer with Miami-Dade officials immediately after the arrest, emphasizing that the individual should not be allowed back onto the streets. The case underscores ongoing tensions over immigration enforcement and public safety. The witness involved reported that Aballe was unarmed and did not start the confrontation.
