Israel orders British consulate in East Jerusalem to shut within a month
Israel has given the British consulate in East Jerusalem 30 days to close and will revoke its diplomats’ accreditation.
Israel instructed the British consulate in East Jerusalem to terminate its presence and withdraw accreditation for its staff within 30 days, according to an Israeli official and two sources. The directive came after Britain imposed sanctions on Israeli settlements in the West Bank, a step echoed by France, Canada and Sweden. Foreign Minister Gideon Saar announced the demand, linking it to the settlement sanctions.
In addition, British representatives involved in a U.S.-led Gaza coordination mission and those stationed in Ramallah must leave within seven days. Israel’s government, which anticipated the sanctions, will convene on Wednesday to discuss a broader response. The Prime Minister’s office did not comment on the matter.
