Israeli forces detain teachers, issue demolition orders as settlers target schools in West Bank
Israeli troops arrested several Palestinians, including teachers, and served demolition notices across the West Bank while settlers attempted to raid a school in Jalud.
After settlers attacked Musab Rab’i’s house in al-Tuwani, Israeli troops arrested two local residents and two foreign solidarity activists. In the nearby village of Susiya, a group of Palestinian teachers heading to a primary school was intercepted; one teacher, Ismail al-Nawaj’ah, was taken into custody and the teachers’ vehicle was seized, forcing the others to walk to the school. Settlers then attempted to breach the Jalud Co-educational Elementary School in Nablus, leading to the evacuation of its pupils.
Israeli soldiers also conducted raids in four Jenin neighbourhoods, detaining dozens and issuing more than 20 demolition notices that include greenhouses, sheds, a park and a car dealership. In the Negev, homes in Umm Numaila and other buildings in Abu Quraynat were razed, while further operations occurred in Qalqiya. Two Palestinians were wounded after being beaten by settlers in Turmus Ayya and Deir Abu Mash'al, where attackers tried to set two houses on fire.
Why it matters
