Israeli strikes on Gaza anniversary kill three, amid ongoing humanitarian crisis

On the third anniversary of the Oct 7 war, Israeli attacks in Gaza killed three people, including a Hamas volunteer and a 60-year-old man, as residents mourn earlier casualties.

At dawn on the third anniversary of the Oct 7 war, loud explosions were heard near the Nova music festival site as families gathered to remember the more than 300 victims of that day. Israeli forces carried out overnight strikes in Gaza, killing two people at Al-Shifa hospital, among them Mohamed Tamous, identified by the Israeli military as a Hamas sniper who also worked for Gaza’s civil-defence agency. A separate strike in Khan Younis killed 60-year-old Hisham Ibrahim Abu Mustafa, with additional injuries reported.

Israel claimed the operations targeted Hamas operatives planting explosives near the Yellow Line, the demarcation between Israeli-controlled and Hamas-controlled zones. Despite a US-brokered ceasefire since October 2025, Gaza remains devastated, with most of its population displaced into tent camps, soaring prices, and ongoing shortages. Health officials say the war has claimed over 74,200 lives, and more than 1,460 deaths have occurred since the ceasefire began.

Why it matters

The strike highlights the ongoing violence and humanitarian suffering in Gaza despite a ceasefire.
