Israeli troops sweep West Bank, detaining dozens and ordering mass evacuations

Israeli forces carried out raids in more than a dozen West Bank towns, arresting dozens of Palestinians and forcing hundreds of families in Hebron to leave their homes.

The operations spanned the northern West Bank, hitting Nablus, Jenin, Tubas and Qalqilya, while in the south Israeli troops ordered the evacuation of hundreds of families in the Ein Deir Bahha area of Hebron. In Hebron, soldiers also surrounded the house of a suspect linked to a shooting that killed two Israeli soldiers and conducted raids in the al-Jalda neighbourhood. Additional incursions reached Jericho and the Aqabat Jabr refugee camp.

Why it matters

The raids intensify Israeli-Palestinian tensions and affect thousands of civilians in the West Bank.
