Italian Prime Minister Meloni to discuss EU agenda and bilateral cooperation with Czech PM Babiš in Prague
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will meet Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš in Prague to talk about EU competitiveness, the bloc’s long-term budget and a new Italy-Czech cooperation plan.
Giorgia Meloni is scheduled to travel to Prague on Tuesday for talks with Andrej Babiš, focusing on strengthening EU competitiveness and shaping the next long-term budget. The agenda includes a comprehensive Italy-Czech cooperation plan through 2030 that spans defence, energy security, migration, scientific research and education. Additional topics are EU emissions-trading reforms, measures to curb rising energy and fuel costs, and a cultural exchange program slated for 2027-2028.
Bilateral trade between the two nations topped CTK 438 billion last year, making Italy Czechia’s sixth-largest partner. Meloni’s prior visit to Prague in 2023 involved discussions with then-Prime Minister Petr Fiala, while she met Babiš in Rome earlier this year. The meeting follows a visit by Italian President Sergio Mattarella to Czechia in April, where he spoke with President Petr Pavel.
