Italian short 'Mutrion' wins Best Director at Locarno's Leopards of Tomorrow

Mutrion, a short set entirely on the islands of the Venice lagoon, captured the Best Director award in the Pardi di Domani (Leopards of Tomorrow) section of the Locarno Film Festival. The 26-year-old Italian filmmaker Marco Cavazzin directed the piece, which features Manfredi Marini—known from Giovanni Tortorici’s Nineteen—and Giulio Maroncelli. Produced by the independent studio Etimo, the film received support from the Veneto Film Commission and will be distributed by Cattive Produzioni.

It was the only Italian submission among twenty works from countries including France, the U.K., Iran and the United States. The jury, made up of Lebanese director Mounia Akl, South African producer Steven Markovitz and Italian director Antonio Piazza, selected Cavazzin for the directing prize.
