Jakarta prolongs custody of Malaysian pilot linked to drug smuggling case
Indonesian authorities have extended the detention of a Malaysian pilot arrested in Jakarta on drug-trafficking charges for an additional 30 days.
A Malaysian pilot detained at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport after authorities found about 25 kg of drugs hidden in 70,000 capsules will stay in jail for an extra 30 days, officials announced. Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, director of Indonesia's Narcotics Crime Investigation Department, confirmed the extension and noted it could be lengthened again by another month. The case has prompted coordinated investigations by Indonesian and Malaysian police.
In Malaysia, a second pilot and six other suspects have been placed under 60-day detention orders under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act, accused of supplying the drugs and handling money for the syndicate. The developments follow the July arrest of the first pilot, highlighting ongoing concerns about aviation personnel involvement in drug trafficking.
