Japan and Mongolia pledge deeper cooperation to boost prosperity and security

In a landmark meeting in Tokyo, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Prime Minister Nyam-Osor Uchral pledged to deepen Japan-Mongolia relations, citing infrastructure projects as a key area of collaboration. Takaichi praised Mongolia's consistent backing of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific, a stance that counters rising Chinese influence. Uchral reiterated that closer ties with Japan are a top foreign-policy priority for Mongolia, which pursues a "third-neighbor" approach despite heavy reliance on China and Russia.

The two leaders celebrated the signing of notes on Japan's assistance for the expansion of Chinggis Khaan International Airport, describing it as a tangible sign of bilateral friendship. Their discussion reaffirmed the special strategic partnership for peace and prosperity established in 2022 and signaled intent to expand cooperation across additional sectors.
