Junts leader urges Sánchez to resume talks on housing reform after parliamentary defeat
Junts spokesperson Miriam Nogueras said her party is ready to negotiate a housing solution with the PSOE after both government bills were rejected in Congress.
The Spanish Congress rejected two housing decrees backed by the PSOE, with opposition from the PP, Vox and Catalan parties. Junts' spokesperson Miriam Nogueras announced that her party is willing to sit down with the PSOE to find a workable solution, arguing that the government's proposals are badly drafted and would worsen the crisis. Nogueras presented a 59-page alternative document to Minister Isabel Rodríguez, which protects owners, makes short-term rentals optional and limits anti-eviction measures until 2028.
The minister declined to abandon the original bills, claiming most of Junts' ideas are already included. Left-wing parties, including Sumar and ERC, accused Junts of aligning with large landlords and called the move a class conflict. Meanwhile, tenant unions have organized protests nationwide as the housing debate stalls.
Why it matters
Housing policy affects millions of renters and owners, and the deadlock could shape Spain's political landscape ahead of possible elections.
