Justice Minister and PS chief accuse RN leader Bardella of lying over alleged antisemitic messages

Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin and PS secretary Olivier Faure said RN president Jordan Bardella is lying about antisemitic messages published by Mediapart.

During a broadcast on RTL, Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin and Socialist Party first secretary Olivier Faure both condemned RN president Jordan Bardella for denying antisemitic messages that Mediapart attributes to him. Darmanin labeled the denial a shameless lie that casts doubt on Bardella’s capacity for political responsibility. Faure added that the alleged falsehood and antisemitism disqualify Bardella from any future role as prime minister.

Mediapart had published screenshots of 2013 Messenger exchanges it says were authored by Bardella, which he continues to deny and has responded to by filing a defamation suit. The episode also drew remarks from Édouard Philippe, who described the alleged remarks as scandalously antisemitic. The dispute adds to the fraught political climate ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Why it matters

The allegations and legal fight could affect Bardella’s political credibility and the RN’s standing before the 2027 election.
