Kate Douglass reclaims 50m freestyle world record at Pan Pacs prelims

Kate Douglass delivered a blistering 23.49-second swim in the 50-metre freestyle prelims at the Pan Pacific Championships, reclaiming the world record she first set in June. The achievement ends a back-and-forth rivalry with training partner Gretchen Walsh, who had held the record most recently. Douglass's week has been highlighted by a silver medal in the 50-metre butterfly and a mixed 4x100 medley relay world record set with Walsh, Van Mathias and Will Modglin.

Although her 100-metre breaststroke effort placed fourth, she rebounded by anchoring the U.S. women's 4x100 freestyle relay with a 51.69 split, the second-fastest ever, securing an American record and gold. The upcoming final will pit Douglass against Walsh in a direct showdown, with the race scheduled for about 10:35 EST and streamed on Peacock and USA Swimming’s YouTube channel.
