Klaver says cabinet finally open to dropping planned welfare cuts

Jesse Klaver, leader of PRO, told reporters that the coalition has for the first one outlet indicated a readiness to eliminate the proposed cuts to the Netherlands' social security system, including the WW and WIA schemes. In a joint discussion with Laurens Dassen of Volt, the two parties expressed support for the move, which could secure a majority in both the Tweede and Eerste Kamer. Klaver pointed out that substantial gaps persist regarding the wealth tax and the overall tax proposal, and that the cabinet has yet to make a definitive choice.

He also welcomed the involvement of Prime Minister Rob Jetten and Finance Minister Eelco Heinen in the talks. Dassen added that he still sees insufficient investment in AI and climate action, calling for fairer taxes on the wealthy and workers.
