Kuki woman killed as security forces clash over illegal bunkers in Manipur

During a night-time operation to remove illegal bunkers near Chassad police station in Kamjong district, Manipur, a clash erupted between security forces and unidentified armed individuals. The confrontation resulted in the death of Domkhonei Touthang, a Kuki mother of five, who was hit by two bullets to her upper left chest. The police, Indian Reserve Battalion and Border Security Force reported that locals tried to obstruct the demolition, after which the unidentified shooters opened fire.
The violence escalated, with several houses set ablaze and gunfire continuing into the early morning. In response, the district magistrate imposed a 400-metre restriction on public gatherings around the Chassad police gate under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.
