Law professor Alexandru Toader detained on multiple sexual assault accusations involving students
Alexandru Toader, a civil law lecturer at Alexandru Ioan Cuza University, has been placed in preventive detention after prosecutors allege he sexually assaulted several female students, exploiting exam fears.
A criminal investigation targets Alexandru Toader, a civil law instructor at the Faculty of Law of Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iași, accusing him of rape and sexual aggression toward multiple students. According to the prosecutor’s report, he allegedly invited a student to his notary office in 2022, pressured her into a non-consensual sexual act by suggesting it was a “price” for passing, and later assaulted her again after an exam.
Six additional women described attempts by Toader to kiss or touch them without consent, citing flirtatious messages sent through platforms that employ a “vanish mode.” One victim said she halted the abuse after mentioning her father’s acquaintance with Tudorel Toader, the former justice minister and Alexandru’s father, who now represents him in court. The university has suspended Toader’s employment, and he remains in preventive detention while the case proceeds.
