Lawmaker urges Senate judges to weigh NBI property findings in Duterte impeachment

Representative Joel Chua called on senator-judges to consider NBI evidence on properties linked to Vice President Sara Duterte during her impeachment trial.

During a news forum in Quezon City, Manila’s 3rd District Representative Joel Chua urged the senator-judges presiding over Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment to review findings from the National Bureau of Investigation. The NBI claims Duterte declared two parcels in Catigan, Davao City at a purchase price of about P890,000, while assessments place them between P40 million and P60 million, and that the land hosts a mansion, two pools and a helipad.

Additional assets cited include the Prime Bistro restaurant, a Don Bosco property in Parañaque, and a site in Aundanao, all reportedly declared at values far below market assessments. Duterte has rejected the allegations, labeling the NBI’s actions as public deception and dismissing its director as a “nobody.” The House impeachment trial, which began on July 6, now proceeds on a single article alleging unexplained wealth, after dropping three other charges.

Why it matters

NBI evidence could sway a pivotal impeachment case centered on alleged asset misdeclaration by the vice president.
