Lawyers Seek High Court Review of Zahid's DNAA in Akalbudi Corruption Case
Counsel for the Bar Council asked the High Court to set a hearing date for a judicial review of Ahmad Zahid's discharge not amounting to an acquittal in the Akalbudi foundation scandal.
Judge S Indra Nehru scheduled a case management hearing after Bar Council lawyer Abhilaash Subramaniam informed that Zahid and the Attorney General, as respondents, had obtained permission to appeal to the Federal Court. The Bar Council then requested a High Court judicial review hearing, to be heard after the Federal Court appeal concludes. The court directed that the 14 June 2027 case management hearing be held by e-review before the deputy registrar of the High Court.
Federal Attorney General Safiyyah Omar and Zahid’s counsel Guok Ngek Seong both agreed to the arrangement. The Bar Council seeks a declaration that the High Court judge who granted Zahid a discharge not amounting to an acquittal acted invalidly, arguing the decision should be nullified. The review follows earlier appellate rulings that allowed the Bar Council to challenge the prosecution’s move to halt proceedings against Zahid.
