Left Party MP Mohamed Ali placed on temporary leave amid election fraud probe

Mohamed Abdukardir Ali, who secured a Riksdag seat with 648 personal votes, is being placed on a timeout because of a police-led investigation into possible election fraud in Borlänge. The probe, now handled by the National Anti-Corruption Group within the police's national operational division, looks into claims of pre-marked ballots and organized transport of voters to polling stations. Ali has rejected any involvement and no evidence of a crime has been reported.

The Left Party has urged him to relinquish his seat, offering a party-office job with the same remuneration as a parliamentarian, but he has declined to resign. Party secretary Maria Forsberg confirmed the arrangement, stating the seriousness of the allegations. In Ali's absence, Kajsa Fredholm, the party's top official in Dalarna, will serve as his replacement.
