Leftist Refusal to Acknowledge Cultural Differences Fuels Debate Over Paris Unrest

The commentary claims the left in 2026 still denies cultural differences while reacting to riots in Paris and related protests.

In this opinion piece the writer argues that, despite the turmoil in Paris and elsewhere, the left continues to reject the notion that cultures differ, insisting that all social problems stem solely from material conditions. He cites the recent arson of Limoges town hall during protests over high living costs, and scenes of young men with Palestinian flags roaming burning streets, which media label as a "youth revolt" or "student protests."

The author highlights Green politician Franziska Brantner’s video that dwells on student interests while barely addressing the violence, and references the Instagram account “Gen Z regelt” that openly celebrates the unrest. Further examples include New York’s socialist mayor Zohran Mamdani speaking in Spanish about immigration, and the low number of deportations to Italy and Greece despite a new asylum system called GEAS. The piece concludes that ignoring cultural distinctions leads to a pseudo-Marxist narrative that excuses perpetrators and blames society at large.

Why it matters

It challenges prevailing left-wing narratives by insisting cultural differences shape social conflict.
