LFI demands parliamentary vote on Parcoursup after government unveils costly education plan
La France Insoumise urged a vote on Parcoursup in the National Assembly, criticizing the government's multi-billion-euro measures as insufficient.
The French executive revealed a multi-billion-euro package aimed at calming the ongoing lycée protests, including new university places, building renovations, and a cap on secondary-school class sizes. Ministers Édouard Geffray and Philippe Baptiste also announced a strong evolution of the Parcoursup admissions system for 2027, followed by a full replacement the next year, with a parliamentary debate scheduled at the National Assembly.
LFI deputy Clément Guetté, speaking for La France Insoumise, insisted that the debate must be concluded with a vote, labeling the government's proposals a “scam” and urging the immediate abolition of Parcoursup. The party also criticized the modest increase in student grants, calling it far too limited, and highlighted the lack of measures on student democracy and protest repression.
Why it matters
The dispute could shape France's higher-education admissions system and affect how student protests are addressed.
