Lidovci and Starosté surge in Brno council vote as ODS slips sharply

ODS fell dramatically in Brno's municipal election while the lidovci-Starosté alliance surged ahead, positioning its candidate for the mayoralty.

In the Brno municipal election, the ODS party, fronted by producer Kamila Zlatušková, suffered a sharp decline, falling far below its earlier performance and losing the mayoral incumbent Markéta Vaňková’s position. The lidovci-Starosté coalition exchanged vote shares with ODS and now leads the tally, with their joint candidate Jakub Hruška poised to become the city’s first lidovci mayor. The newly formed Za Lužánky movement, led by Jana Janulíková, aims to surpass the five-percent barrier and focuses on building a new football stadium, currently holding just over five percent.

The Greens and Pirates have secured representation again, while SPD’s vote share has dropped to roughly four percent, a decline from its near-ten-percent result four years ago. Party leaders expressed optimism, noting the results as a validation of their campaign strategies and coalition plans.

Why it matters

The results reshape Brno's local power balance, affecting future city policies and coalition formations.
