Lin Yu-ting captures Asian Games women's 60kg boxing gold for Taiwan

Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting defeated China's Yang Chengyu 5-0 to win the women's 60kg title at the Asian Games in Nagoya.

Lin Yu-ting, the Olympic champion from Taiwan, secured the women's 60kg boxing gold at the Asian Games held in Nagoya, defeating China's Yang Chengyu by a 5-0 margin. The match unfolded in the intimate Nishio Gymnasium, where Lin's taller frame and longer reach gave her control throughout the fight, allowing her to withstand a late surge from her opponent. The triumph adds a second Asian Games title to Lin's résumé, the first being a 57kg victory in Hangzhou three years prior.

Lin had previously considered retiring after the Paris Olympics but chose to continue competing to challenge doubts about her eligibility. Both she and Algeria's Imane Khelif had been disqualified from the 2023 world championships by the International Boxing Association over unspecified gender tests, though the IOC later permitted their participation in Paris, labeling the IBA's decision arbitrary.

Why it matters

Lin's win highlights her resilience amid controversy and adds to Taiwan's sporting prestige on the Asian stage.
