Liverpool advances in League Cup as Tottenham's goal drought ends

Liverpool beat Tottenham 3-1 at Anfield, moving on to the fourth round of the League Cup, while Tottenham finally scored after eight matches.

Liverpool progressed to the fourth round of the League Cup after a 3-1 win over Tottenham at Anfield. The match opened with Alexis Mac Allister delivering a spectacular volley to give Liverpool the lead, and Cody Gakpo doubled the advantage with a precise finish from distance. Tottenham, who had not scored against top-flight opposition this season, finally found the net when Conor Gallagher headed in a corner in the closing minutes.

Szoboszlai added a third goal for Liverpool shortly after, sealing the result. Tottenham's late effort by Marmoush was denied by a swift reflex save from Giorgi Mamardashvili, who kept the scoreline intact.

Why it matters

The result determines which team continues in the domestic cup competition and reflects Tottenham's ongoing scoring struggles.
