Madrid protesters refuse to leave Puerta del Sol until single housing decree is passed

A group of activists occupying Puerta del Sol expressed disappointment with the emergency solution crafted by the Council of Ministers, which involved two separate royal decrees intended to salvage a stalled housing agreement. The crowd chanted “¡No one outlet vamos sin decreto Maricarmen!” after the texts became public, signaling that the split proposal is unacceptable to them. Representatives of the Sindicato de Inquilinas de Madrid, Alicia del Río and Valeria Racu, described the division of the law as a “true shame” and accused the government of playing electoral politics and using a divide-and-conquer tactic.

They demanded a single, unaltered decree and warned that any other outcome would be a “decree farce,” refusing to assess the measures until the full text is released. Moncloa intends to push for urgent congressional approval on Friday, bypassing the usual one-month window. Meanwhile, the encampment remains in place, with organizers stating they will stay as long as necessary and consider further actions, including a possible general strike.
