Malaysia and Egypt aim to expand student exchanges into engineering, medicine and AI
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that Malaysia and Egypt will widen their educational ties beyond Islamic studies to include fields such as engineering, medicine, digital technology and artificial intelligence.
During a joint briefing in Putrajaya, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi agreed to broaden the scope of Malaysia-Egypt educational collaboration. The expansion will move beyond the traditional focus on Islamic studies at Al-Azhar University to incorporate engineering, medicine, electrical and electronics, digital technology and artificial intelligence programs. Anwar highlighted the rising need for skilled professionals in these areas and cited the long-standing link whereby many Malaysian doctors have received training in Egypt.
Both leaders emphasized that the enhanced cooperation aims to meet market demands and strengthen bilateral ties. The announcement signals a strategic shift toward more diversified academic exchange between the two countries.
