Malaysia Benefits as Global Supply-Chain Turbulence Boosts US Investment
Malaysia is being hailed as a winner of worldwide supply-chain disruptions, with most US firms keeping or expanding their investments, said US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires David Gamble at the AMCHAM Penang Dialogue.
Speaking at the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce Penang Dialogue, US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires David Gamble described Malaysia as a clear winner of recent global supply-chain upheavals caused by tariffs, conflicts and oil disruptions. He reported that 94 % of US companies operating in the country have either retained or expanded their investments, crediting a 50-year history of trust between the two nations. Penang was singled out as a hub for advanced manufacturing and medical-device production, supplying roughly half of the pacemakers destined for the United States.
AMCHAM chief executive Siobhan Das emphasized that sustaining this momentum requires robust infrastructure, transparent regulations and a strong talent pipeline. She also noted that American firms in Malaysia typically pay employees about 2.2 times the local average and offer career-development opportunities within multinational networks. Both officials stressed that the decisions made now by government and businesses will shape the next five decades of bilateral cooperation.
