Malaysia launches National Digital Talent Framework to boost AI-ready workforce
Malaysia's Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo announced a National Digital Talent Framework aimed at coordinating the development of highly skilled digital workers, focusing on attracting, nurturing, retaining and deploying talent as AI transforms the job market.
In a parliamentary session, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo unveiled the National Digital Talent Framework, a policy designed to coordinate Malaysia's pool of highly skilled digital workers as artificial intelligence reshapes employment. The framework rests on four pillars—attracting, nurturing, retaining and deploying talent—and seeks to align talent development with industry demand. To attract and nurture, the plan will upgrade digital curricula, expand industry-based training, recognise micro-credentials and broaden digital learning platforms, including Place and Train programmes for high-potential individuals.
The retaining and deploying components will establish career pathways for high-demand digital roles and improve the match between talent supply and market needs. The ministry is working with AI Malaysia, TalentCorp and the Human Resources Ministry through the MyMahir-NAICI initiative, which has introduced an AI readiness assessment instrument to guide targeted upskilling and reskilling. Complementary efforts such as the Executive Digital Leadership Programme have delivered 13 cohorts to 594 participants across public and private sectors, and 448,000 civil servants have been given access to Gemini Workspace to boost productivity.
Why it matters
It shows Malaysia's effort to build a skilled digital workforce for the AI era.
