Over 9,000 Malaysian youths claim free premium AI tools under government scheme

As of Oct 4, 9,182 young Malaysians have accessed three months of premium AI software through the AI Untuk Rakyat programme, after 11,979 completed the required learning modules.

The AI Untuk Rakyat programme, overseen by the Digital Ministry, has enabled 9,182 Malaysian youths to obtain three months of free premium AI software as of Oct 4, after 11,979 completed six required digital learning modules. The scheme targets up to 100,000 eligible young people and is intended to strengthen AI competencies and overall digital literacy. Parliamentarian Gobind Singh Deo highlighted that the Rakyat Digital portal recorded 1.58 million participants and offers eleven modules covering AI, cybersecurity, cloud, blockchain and quantum technologies.

The government is also rolling out the Rakyat Digital Global Learning Pass, providing 100,000 Coursera licences in phases, with 12,336 enrollments reported. Outreach efforts extend to rural communities through programmes like Jelajah Digital Komuniti in Tubau, Bario Digital Outreach, TaniGo Digital in Sarawak, and AI Productivity Day in Bachang, Melaka, delivering practical skills such as cashless transactions and digital entrepreneurship.
