Malaysia's exports surge to record levels, expanding reach to new markets

According to a statement from the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation, the country's exports climbed sharply in the first eight months of the year, extending to 40 destination countries such as the United States, France and Ireland. The agency highlighted rapid expansion in emerging markets, with Namibia, Angola, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Bangladesh posting the highest percentage gains. Exports to BRICS members rose as well, driven by double-digit growth in China, India, Brazil and South Africa.

Diverse sectors contributed to the surge, including optical and scientific instruments, petroleum products, metal manufacturing, machinery and liquefied natural gas, alongside continued strength in the electrical and electronic segment. The report credited small and medium enterprises for their role in adding value and diversifying Malaysia's export base. Plans are underway to promote these capabilities further through upcoming trade events such as the Malaysia International Halal Showcase.
