Malaysia urges athletes to chase record nine golds at Asian Games

At the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, Malaysia celebrated reaching its six-gold target, a milestone that the Youth and Sports Ministry says reflects the dedication of athletes and officials alike. The gold medals came from karate (two), e-sports, sepak takraw and squash (two), contributing to a total of 17 medals and a tenth-place ranking. Minister Mohammed Taufuid Johari, speaking after a handover ceremony for the KBS MADANI Adopt-a-School Project at SJK (T) Taman Keladi in Sungai Petani, congratulated the team and emphasized the importance of the achievement as inspiration for those still competing.

He urged the remaining athletes to maintain focus and strive to exceed Malaysia's historic best of nine gold medals, which would create a new national record. The minister also confirmed that all medalists will receive the incentives outlined by the ministry, underscoring the government's commitment to supporting its sportspeople.
