Malaysia urges greater international burden-sharing for Rohingya refugees

During the OIC Foreign Ministers' Annual Coordination Meeting held at the United Nations headquarters, Malaysia's Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan stressed that a sustainable solution for the Rohingya must tackle core problems such as citizenship status and create conditions for dignified, voluntary repatriation to Rakhine. He urged the international community to share the burden more equitably, supporting nations that host large numbers of refugees.

Malaysia remains committed to pursuing accountability for human-rights violations, backing the Gambia's filing against Myanmar at the International Court of Justice and welcoming the conclusion of the court's merits phase. The country also contributes financially to the OIC's Rohingya fund and encourages other member states to do the same. In addition, Malaysia highlighted its partnership with the OIC mission in Kabul to improve education for Afghan girls, including refurbishing two schools and supplying essential equipment, and reiterated its participation in OIC-led dialogues on Afghanistan.
