Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Zahid to Discuss Halal Cooperation in Jakarta

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will travel to Jakarta on September 17 for talks with Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and to attend an international halal forum.

Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister, is scheduled to arrive in Jakarta on Thursday, September 17, for a series of high-level discussions. His first engagement will be a bilateral meeting with Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, where they will review current cooperation and set targets for the upcoming annual bilateral consultation. A central element of the visit is Zahid's attendance at the international halal forum in Cibubur, intended to translate the recently signed halal cooperation MoU into concrete actions.

The Malaysian Embassy highlighted the need for stronger coordination to fulfill halal commitments. While a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto has not yet been confirmed, Zahid's previous 2025 visit included talks with both leaders and the launch of the ASEAN Unity Drive 2025 initiative.

Why it matters

The trip aims to deepen Malaysia-Indonesia ties and advance joint halal industry initiatives.
