Malaysian market stalls amid US yield worries and Middle East tensions

The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI finished the session at 1,671.62, down 0.04% after opening 2.56 points higher. Trading saw a near-even split between losers and winners, with 590 stocks falling versus 575 rising, while 534 remained unchanged. Total turnover decreased to 4.07 billion units worth RM2.69 billion.
Kenneth Leong of Berjaya Research said investors are keeping a cautious stance due to ongoing Middle East tensions, high US Treasury yields and the risk of inflation. He highlighted upcoming Malaysian PPI data and the final US Q2 2026 GDP and unemployment figures as key watches. Heavyweights such as Maybank and Public Bank showed modest moves, while sector indices displayed mixed performance.
