Malaysian officials urge citizens in France to register their location amid protests

Malaysia's deputy foreign minister asked Malaysians in Paris and elsewhere in France to inform the embassy of their whereabouts as large-scale riots spread across European cities.

Amid a wave of riots and demonstrations sweeping cities such as Paris and Milan, Malaysia's deputy foreign minister Lukanisman Awang Sauni instructed Malaysians residing in or visiting France to notify the embassy of their whereabouts. He emphasized that the foreign ministry is monitoring the situation closely and that consular officers are fielding inquiries from community members worried about relatives and staff traveling in the capital.

The call to register was made during the opening of a symposium on the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme, highlighting the government's effort to maintain contact with its overseas citizens. While the unrest has been sparked by grievances over student welfare, deteriorating public services and rising living costs, the foreign ministry confirmed that no Malaysian has been reported harmed. Travelers are encouraged to use the e-Konsular platform to register, and emergency contact details for the embassy were provided.
