Malaysian stock index nudges higher as investors await Budget 2027
The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI opened modestly higher on Tuesday, trading around 1,603 points ahead of the upcoming Budget 2027 announcement.
The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI started the session slightly up, climbing 1.14 points to 1,602.15 after an opening level of 1,602.94. Turnover was 326.93 million units valued at RM155.22 million, with 233 decliners versus 216 gainers and 284 unchanged stocks. Malacca Securities said momentum indicators suggest reduced selling pressure, pointing to a rounding bottom in the MACD and an RSI near oversold levels, and set resistance at 1,616-1,631 and support at 1,571-1,586.
The broker also flagged 99 Speed Mart Retail as a possible beneficiary of higher SARA and STR allocations under Budget 2027. Rakuten Trade’s Thong Pak Leng noted mixed Wall Street closes, high crude prices, and a softer US 10-year yield, while seeing one outlet index level as a buying opportunity for local blue-chip shares, expecting it to stay within 1,600-1,615. Major constituents such as Maybank, Public Bank, Tenaga Nasional and IHH Healthcare posted modest gains, while sector indices showed mixed movements.
