Mamata Banerjee vows to hand vote-theft evidence to President Murmu amid police crackdown
Mamata Banerjee said the INDIA alliance will provide proof of alleged vote-theft to President Murmu after the president claimed she lacked evidence, and she condemned police for detaining protesters.
President Murmu told the INDIA bloc that she would look into accusations of "vote chori" but said she had no evidence to act on, prompting Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge to note her request for proof. Mamata Banerjee announced that the alliance will furnish the required evidence, stressing their unity. During a protest near her residence, Delhi Police denied the group permission to march to Jantar Mantar, stopped them at a bus stand, and escorted several TMC leaders in a prison van for two hours, moving them between stations.
Banerjee described the episode as akin to kidnapping and questioned who democracy serves when peaceful assembly is barred. BJP West Bengal president Samik Bhattacharya criticised Banerjee’s actions and dismissed any prospect of a change in government for the next two decades.
