Man denied bail after assault on Kerry TD Michael Healy-Rae in Dublin

Anthony Foley, 51, was charged with assault causing harm after a CCTV video showed him confronting Kerry TD Michael Healy-Rae on Cork Street, shouting insults and striking the politician in the face. The assault left Healy-Rae with a mouth laceration that required seven stitches and hospital treatment. Gardaí arrested Foley the following day when he was seen walking the same dog in the same clothing near the scene.

During the hearing, the defence argued that the identification was uncertain, but the judge applied Section 2 of the Bail Act and denied bail, citing the violent and politically motivated nature of the offence. Foley was remanded to Cloverhill Prison and will appear again on September 22.
