Man who claimed to be King Tut charged with murdering Pittsburgh pediatric doctor
Elijah Hemingway, who told police he was the reincarnation of King Tutankhamun, has been charged with stabbing Dr. Idris Evans to death and wounding the physician’s wife in Pittsburgh.
Elijah Hemingway, 32, who earlier proclaimed to officers that he was the spirit of King Tutankhamun, is accused of breaking into the home of Dr. Idris Evans in Pittsburgh and stabbing the doctor to death. The attack also left Evans’s wife, Gina Evans, with severe stab wounds. Court records show Hemingway had been released on non-monetary bail after a separate burglary charge earlier in the year.
Police body-cam footage captured him leaping across cars in Daytona, Florida, and denying any intent to harm anyone while claiming he was not a physical being. During the midnight assault, Hemingway was reportedly stripped to his underwear and ranted about being a god. The couple’s children, ages 8 and 12, escaped to a neighbor’s house. Hemingway is being held at UPMC Presbyterian pending further proceedings.
