Manases Carpio says he is being treated as collateral damage in impeachment probe

Lawyer Manases “Mans” Carpio, husband of Vice President Sara Duterte, claimed he is being unfairly targeted as their finances face scrutiny during the impeachment trial.

Manases “Mans” Carpio, a lawyer and the spouse of Vice President Sara Duterte, told supporters at a Sara Duterte Movement gathering in Valencia City that he feels persecuted and described himself as "collateral damage" in the ongoing impeachment proceedings. He asserted that government assets are being deployed to target him and that his finances ought to stay private because he is not a public official. The impeachment trial, now in its 36th day, has turned to the couple's tax returns and Bureau of Internal Revenue documents.

Prosecutors have cited substantial suspicious transactions tied to Carpio, including a large cash withdrawal in 2024 and significant remittances to a food company he founded. Carpio’s legal team has repeatedly sought to keep the financial records sealed, invoking confidentiality rules. The court continues to review the evidence as the impeachment case proceeds.
