MAPIM urges BRICS to turn Palestine declaration into concrete action

The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (MAPIM) called on BRICS to move from rhetoric in the New Delhi Declaration 2026 to tangible diplomatic, humanitarian and legal steps for Palestine.

In Kuala Lumpur, MAPIM urged the BRICS bloc to convert the commitments made in the New Delhi Declaration 2026 into actionable diplomatic, humanitarian, economic and legal measures for Palestine. President Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid highlighted BRICS' considerable weight across Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East, insisting that this influence be deployed to address violations of international law. He called for an outright rejection of any forced displacement of Palestinians and for uninterrupted humanitarian assistance to Gaza.

MAPIM suggested establishing a BRICS Palestine Action Mechanism to oversee an immediate ceasefire, safeguard UNRWA, and accelerate Palestine's full UN membership. The proposal also includes mechanisms for international accountability and a BRICS-led, Palestinian-directed reconstruction plan for Gaza. Finally, MAPIM appealed to the Malaysian government and other Global South bodies, such as the OIC and Arab League, to coordinate their diplomatic efforts rather than act in isolation.

Why it matters

It pushes a major global bloc to take concrete steps that could affect the humanitarian and political future of Palestine.
