Mayawati reinstates nephew Akash Anand as BSP national coordinator

Mayawati has readmitted her nephew Akash Anand to the Bahujan Samaj Party, appointing him again as national coordinator after his apology.

Mayawati, serving as the BSP's national president, confirmed that her nephew Akash Anand has been taken back into the party and reinstated as its national coordinator. The move comes three days after Anand posted an apology, explaining that his lack of response to a September 9 party appeal was due to a temporary withdrawal from social media and asking forgiveness if it caused offense. He emphasized that the BSP is his family and he wishes to contribute again under Mayawati's guidance.

Anand had been expelled on September 10 after failing to repost a request for his father-in-law Ashok Siddharth's retirement, which was seen as putting family interests above the party. Mayawati noted that with Siddharth's exit from politics, the party should operate more smoothly and avoid further organisational reshuffles. The reinstatement also received the blessing of Anand's father and younger brother Ishaan, underscoring a broader family consensus.

Why it matters

The reinstatement shows how family dynamics influence leadership decisions within the BSP.
